Twenty twelve gold

In July 2005, to the delight of the nation, the International Olympic Committee announced that the 2012 Olympics are to be hosted in London. Lord Coe said: “This is just the most fantastic opportunity to do everything we ever dreamed of in British sport.” I have one of those dreams - to compete and represent Britain in the discipline of Archery. This Blog records my progress of my attempt to compete at archery in the 2012 Games, having no prior competitive experience.

So you don't think I can do it right? Why not make a bet at poserfish.com with odds that I cannot refuse?

Archery is ACE

I’ve moved house to Epsom so I’ve had to take a bit of a break while I got house stuff sorted out. I’ve also had to join another archery club nearer to home (Nonsuch) as getting to GOA regularly has become too much. Still I’ve managed to get over there a couple of times: for the final Frostbite (I finished 2nd in the league missing out on 1st place to Andrew by a paltry 10 points) and for the Spring Handicap Shoot. I was also supposed to go for the St. George Shoot but I was ill.

I still haven’t managed to get my outdoor handicap down yet. I have put this down to lack of practise though, and hope to arch regularly again soon.

Having a high handicap has been quite good though as I got 1st place at the GOA Spring Handicap shoot for the Long Western round. My actual score was 536 which would have placed me 2nd behind Andrew, but luckily I had an allowance of 878 which put me ahead of him by 16 points – a sweet victory since he beat me at the Frostbite.

Other news includes the purchase of a new set of arrows. I’ve treated myself to some ACEs, and I have to say that they go like bullets. The difference between these and my old aluminiums is amazing. The trajectory is so much flatter and my bow so much quieter. I think psychologically they feel better too. I’m convinced my groups are tighter but there is no real way of proving this. I’ve also got a clicker on the way and I’m thinking about treating myself to a new sight. I should be able to recoup some of the cost by selling my current Arten Olympic. Looking forward to a good summer.

How come you're not on the target list for the Middx Champ's or the FITA the following day? You'll never make 2012 if you don't enter some competitions mate!!

Thanks for the encouragement Andrew. The truth is that I'm really not shooting as well as I could at the moment. I will get my act together soon.
