Twenty twelve gold

In July 2005, to the delight of the nation, the International Olympic Committee announced that the 2012 Olympics are to be hosted in London. Lord Coe said: “This is just the most fantastic opportunity to do everything we ever dreamed of in British sport.” I have one of those dreams - to compete and represent Britain in the discipline of Archery. This Blog records my progress of my attempt to compete at archery in the 2012 Games, having no prior competitive experience.

So you don't think I can do it right? Why not make a bet at poserfish.com with odds that I cannot refuse?

Where's the corkscrew

I’m really sorry for the delay in writing my latest blog entry. I have no excuse other than I have been busy – and sadly not with archery. Although I have to say I have has a cracking start to the New Year.

Check out the new events list in the sidebar on the right hand side of the web site.

On the 6th January I celebrated my 1 year anniversary of doing archery. And it happened in style at the Spelthorne open Portsmouth competition where I got a new personal best and was placed 3rd on the leader board overnight with a score of 554. Sunday saw some of the stronger archers compete, but I finished the competition in 9th place overall. I am really pleased, and that’s my best result to date competing with the big boys.

The following day I scored (another) 298 in our club Frostbite tournament which I was happy with except I still hadn’t broken the psychological 300 barrier. Still it was enough for 5th place.

Since then I did the FITA 25 competition at Guildford, scoring a disappointing 485 to leave me in 51st place – a massive 91 points behind the winner. The moral of that story is don’t rest on your laurels and must keep practising.

I’ve also had a disappointing indoor practise session with a 385 Vegas round with a not so bad 248 Worcester round.

Last weekend my friends Chris, Linda and Tom came over to see me and Caroline. We had a fantastic day out at the Motorcycle show in the ExCel exhibition centre, and saw in the early hours of Sunday morning with lots of beer, wine and curry. On Sunday morning with the hangover from hell I did the Feb Frostbite competition and although feeling pretty rubbish and only just making it there in time scored 303 – finally over the 300 barrier and a personal best.

With one round to go in the Frostbite league I am 2nd in the standings just 4 points off the leader. So I have to pull out all the stops before then. Oh, and I’m in the Middlesex indoor championships on Sunday – now where’s that corkscrew!

You have a way with words - "4 points off the leader" ?? It's going to be harder for me to stay there than it will for you to knock me off there! Roll on March 4th!
